Three ways to embed a telnet console in your java applications

• RCP Telnet Console : This RCP application shows that it’s possible to run a character mode application into a RCP application. The way is opened to run Green Screen applications like CICS or IMS clients into your RCP application.

• Eclipse Plugin Telnet Console : This plugin shows a Telnet Console in a view of your Eclipse IDE

• Custom Widget SWT Telnet Console : This wigdet is based on JTA (Version 2.6), a Swing stand alone application which is a Telnet Client.

EclipseJoystick is a POC which shows that it is possible to control an Eclipse RCP application through HTTP : a kind of “REST RCP Application”.

Download Eclipse Joystick eclipsejoystick-20060404.zip

Unzip the file.

Start EclipseJoystick.exe. Click on : A Kiss or Eclipse or The Sky or Dreaming

By sending a HTTP request an image is pushed in an Eclipse View.

Ce prototype démontre la capacité d’Eclipse à intégrer un navigateur Web.
Il s’agit d’une plate-forme pour faire tourner des applications Web. L’avantage, c’est que l’utilisateur n’a plus accès aux fonctions d’un navigateur habituel qu’on n’aime pas qu’il utilise pour des applications de gestion (URL, bouton back...).

Les applications sont directement accessibles via les menus et la barre d’outils. Le nom, l’icône et l’URL sont définis dans un fichier de configuration en XML.

C’est évidemment un point de départ dans la création du bureau métier et cette première étape est sans doute la plus accessible techniquement. Vous pouvez télécharger le prototype ici (version pour Windows) : WebAppPlatform.zip

Pour l’exécuter :

• décompresser l’archive quelque part (cette “installation” est facilement réversible en supprimant le répertoire créé - comme pour l’installation d’eclipse, on ne pollue pas la base de registres ou autres...)
• exécuter WebAppPlatform.exe

Vous pourrez vous amuser à modifier la configuration dans le fichier XML situé dans workspace/ pour y insérer vos applications web préférées.
